How the Steel Was Tempered

(Russian: “Как закалялась сталь”)
“I would like to live such a life so that it would not be excruciatingly painful for years spent aimlessly…”
I was born and raised in the USSR, under the iron curtains of the Communist regime — a world of patriotic indoctrination in “the bright future of Communism.”
One of our national Communist heroes was Nikolai Ostrovsky, author of the socialist novel How the Steel Was Tempered (1904–1936).
“I would like to live such a life so that it would not be excruciatingly painful for years spent aimlessly…”
He sacrificed his life for his belief in “the bright future of Communism…” — a dream which never came to pass, nor ever will be fulfilled.
Yet, his famous phrase —
“I would like to live such a life so that it would not be excruciatingly painful for years spent aimlessly…”
inspired millions all over the world to live and die for their belief in “the bright future of Communism…”
And once I said to myself:
“…If these people lived and died as heroes for their false Communist religion of ‘the bright future of Communism…’, how much more should I — godly — live and die as all Biblical true heroes, for the true ‘bright future of the Heavenly Kingdom of Yahweh…’!”
Amen and Amen.
Now my heavenly motto is:
“I would like to live such a life so that it would not be excruciatingly painful for years spent aimlessly …”
📖 Revelation 21:7–8
Rev 21:7
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Rev 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
“Only the ones whose names are written in the Book of Life will listen and repent!”
